Installing drivers properly ensures your PC can communicate with Android devices like Samsung, Qualcomm, MTK, Huawei, etc. Here’s a complete step-by-step guide for installing drivers on Windows (XP to 11):

How to Install Android/USB Drivers on Windows

Basic Requirements

  • A Windows PC (XP, 7, 8, 10, 11)
  • Drivers (usually in .zip, .rar, or .exe format)
  • Tools: WinRAR or 7-Zip to extract files

If the Driver File is .exe (Executable Installer)

  1. Extract (if zipped):
    • Right-click on the .zip or .rar file
    • Choose “Extract All…” or use WinRAR/7-Zip
  2. Run the Installer:
    • Locate the .exe file (e.g., setup.exe, DriverInstaller.exe)
    • Right-click and choose “Run as Administrator”
  3. Follow the On-Screen Instructions:
    • Click Next / Install
    • Wait for it to finish
    • Click Finish
  4. Restart Your PC (if prompted)

If the Driver is in .inf Format (Manual Install)

Some drivers come in folders with .inf files (no .exe). Here’s how to install those:

  1. Extract the ZIP File
    • Right-click > Extract > Open the folder
  2. Device Manager:
    • Press Win + X > Click Device Manager
    • Plug in your Android device via USB
    • Look for a yellow exclamation (usually “Unknown Device”)
  3. Manual Driver Install:
    • Right-click the device > Update Driver
    • Choose “Browse my computer for drivers”
    • Select the folder where you extracted the driver
    • Click Next and follow the prompts

Special Notes for Android OEM Drivers

  • Samsung: Use Samsung USB Driver EXE or Samsung Kies
  • Qualcomm/MTK: Always run Driver Signature Enforcement Disabled Mode on Windows 8/10/11 if unsigned
  • Huawei/Kirin: Use original Huawei USB Drivers or HiSuite
  • Intel/Spreadtrum (SPD): May require device in Download/Meta/Factory Mode

Driver Signature Enforcement on Windows 10/11

Some unsigned drivers may not install unless driver signature enforcement is disabled.

How to Disable Signature Enforcement Temporarily:

  1. Press: Shift + Restart on Windows login screen
  2. Go to: Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Settings
  3. Choose Option 7: “Disable Driver Signature Enforcement”
  4. Install your driver now

Verify Installation

  • Reopen Device Manager
  • Confirm your device is recognized under “Portable Devices”, “ADB Interface”, or the device brand name (Samsung, Huawei, etc.)
